Libra is a cardinal sign and like the other cardinal signs—Aries, Cancer and Capricorn—it begins a new season. Cardinal signs are good at initiating, responding and getting things going. In tarot, the cardinal signs correspond to numbers 2, 3 and 4. And as an air sign, we use the Swords for Libra. Put it together and the first decan (ten days) of Libra corresponds to the Two of Swords.

We have a little update for you. The cargo ship carrying 3000 Faunabelle Tarot decks has been sitting in Long Beach since September 9th. In normal times, the decks would have made their way to our fulfillment partner in New Jersey by now and be on their way to you next week. But these are not normal times… supply chains are still recovering from the catastrophic disruption brought by COVID.

What’s a decan? The zodiac is divided into twelve signs of 30° each and every sign is further divided into three 10° spans called decans. It’s like dividing a pizza (zodiac) into 12 slices (the signs) and then into three mini slices (the decans). Since the Sun moves roughly 1° per day, it takes the Sun just about ten days to move through one decan and approximately 30 days to transit one sign.

Rather than bypass the parts of life that challenge us, tarot acknowledges that change can be scary. When we’re going through a hard time, It feels good to have our true experience mirrored and compassionately addressed. Tarot doesn’t skip the bad days and the hurt feelings. It includes them. Often, they show up as the “scary cards”.

At times, our mood can take an unexpected nose dive for some reason and everything feels stormy inside. It can be something someone said, a sleepless night, or a to-do list that wraps around the corner that has our nerves frayed. When we’re feeling yucky, no good and ready to yip like a triggered chihuahua, it’s really helpful to be kind to our sensitive and exhausted parts.
